Hooligans Customs

Sergei Atanasov, the owner and CTO of the tuning company “Hooligans Customs”, has been attracted to technology since childhood. In the fifth grade he had his own motorized bicycle, and that says a lot about him. Later he started riding a motorcycle and driving a car and things got more interesting. After the army, Sergei became a bodyguard. After 12 years working as a bodyguard he decided to find himself something else to do, something that would bring him the moral satisfaction and at the same time would make him independent. He was rescued by an old love of technology, cars in particular.
Sergei began his career in the automotive industry restoring Jaguar Cars, renting a garage for $25 a month, and performing a variety of experiments with technology and following the advice of friends. Later he got the opportunity to expand his business and add tuning to the list of services. From the very beginning, Sergei wanted to offer customers the maximum range of services.

According to the CTO, one desire is not enough to get exactly the car that you as a client want. Often, when people see a tuned car, the first thought that they have is "Cool, I want the same!". But then they find out the price and their ambitions start to fade away.
There are even some extravagant orders. Sometimes a client, impressed by an action movie and the fantastic cars shown there, comes in with a dream to create something common. The problem is not that Hooligans Customs is unable to do that, but such a vehicle in most cases will not be able to move, except on a tow truck. Tuning is not just a decoration that can even cause harm to a vehicle. Each item is developed, taking into account the physics and the aerodynamics.
According to Sergei, gathering the right team who adore their work and are willing to learn something new in the process is not so simple. It is very important when people love what they do and literally rave about it. If an employee is engaged in acoustics, he has to be always ready to offer something different and to give life to an idea. Furthermore, the relationships inside the company, where different ideas and opinions are welcomed, are as important as the relationships between customers and the company.
Regarding orders, the most important thing is an individual approach to each car or bike. At the moment, Hooligans Customs works a lot on motorcycle tuning. Interestingly, most of the orders are received from abroad. "Many European car enthusiasts drive cars with the items that I personally came up with, launched, modernized and adapted. In Ukraine it is not so valuable" said Sergei.
Sergei shrugs his shoulders, talking about Ukraine: "We have a tuning culture now at a very low level." He personally considers himself the head of a new generation of tuning enthusiasts who are not afraid to experiment and design new motorcycle equipment.
The process of creating new car or bike parts is very interesting. Primarily, the responsible specialist makes a model in 3D format, and then using a special instrument the required foam plastic model of the part is cut out. It is like an analog to 3D printer. "Sometimes I can stand for hours, look at the bike and try to understand what is missing. Every detail should be functional, not only beautiful" says Sergei.
According to Sergei, it is also important to understand that riding a motorcycle is dangerous and requires a lot of professionalism in making all the details highly secure to be more protected. According to statistics, motorcycles are one of the most dangerous vehicles.
"I always speak with a client about what can be done and what is safe for him. My main task is to bring all the information to the client and to describe to him all the possibilities. It’s he who makes a decision."

Besides usual tuning, the company also deals with Kit Cars. "There was a client who wanted a Bugatti Veyron", says Sergei. "The car was almost done, but the owner ran out of money and the project was frozen."
Kit Cars tuning is a process of modeling. The car parts are ordered by a client. Hooligans Customs makes a kit, and the customers prepare the frame and donor car chassis, etc. The task of the tuning company is to make a fiberglass car body. It’s hard to say how long it takes, as everything depends on financing.
When we asked Sergei about the most interesting projects, he said that for him every order is particular and interesting. Even when he was working on the acoustic podium for three years, he remembers every step and stage. Also, there was another good project with Bugatti which Sergei would have liked to finish, but unfortunately it was sold by the customer because of financial difficulties. The CTO himself wanted to buy it, but the price requested by the client was too high.
Sometimes Hooligans Customs participates in international exhibitions that bring a lot of experience. Now they are in the process of making two motorcycles in their new branch located in Dubai. In October the new exhibition will be held there. It promises to gather a lot of tuning enthusiasts.
The head of Hooligans Customs often meets the cars tuned by his company on the roads. Not only does Sergei share his passion for cars at work but also in life: his own Jaguar car takes the place of honor in his garage; the second place is taken by his Chevrolet Silverado Camouflage.
When speaking about plans for the future, it all depends on finances. In order to make progress the company needs money. Sometimes they have to operate at a disadvantage.
Despite all the difficulties, Hooligans Customs tries to develop and doesn’t consider giving up. The key to this is the desire and the team that would work 24 hours a day.
